The Seattle Southside Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit business organization that has proudly served the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac, and Tukwila since 1989.
Incorportated in 1993, Burienhas been busy defining and redesigning itself as a vibrant King County city. With six miles of shoreline and expansive mountain views, residents take pride in their neighborhoods, actively preserve the marine biodiversity of the area, and protect their public spaces. Residents and business people alike love the convenience of Burien’s hub location and great connections.
The Des Moines community was homesteaded by a group from Des Moines, Iowa and it shares the same name. It was officially incorporated on June 17, 1959. Des Moines has numerous beaches and public parks on Puget Sound. The city’s marina is right next door to our small-town shopping district. The fishing piers and boardwalk are premiere places to stroll as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains. Mild seasons provide an occasional snow day in the winter and temperatures rarely exceed 90 degrees in the summer. The residential population of Des Moines is 30,000. Des Moines is also home to Highline College and several retirement homes.
Incorporated in 1953, Normandy Park is a beautiful waterfront community located along the shores of Puget Sound. With approximately 6,500 residents, covering an area of about 2.5 square miles, the community places high priority on maintaining and enhancing its quiet, green, pedestrian-friendly setting and on providing healthy, safe, family-oriented services.
Incorporated in 1991, the City of SeaTac is 10.5 square miles in area and has a population of approximately 27,110*. The City boundaries surround the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport which is owned and operated by the Port of Seattle. The annual International Festival and Parade, Shakespeare in the Park and the Music in the Park Series have become summer traditions. The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden/Japanese Garden is a beautiful, relaxing place to get away from it all. It’s located in close proximity to the community center at the 165 acre North SeaTac Park.With thousands of visitors daily, transportation and pedestrian improvements have been a high priority.
Tukwila is the ideal place for both people and business. Since its incorporation in 1908, Tukwila has fostered a strong community while growing into a bustling business economy that is central to the Puget Sound economy. Anchored by Westfield Southcenter, which is the largest mall in the Pacific Northwest, Tukwila offers many shopping and dining options. And with over 150,000 visitors daily, Tukwila is one of the premier retail destinations in the Puget Sound.
