    We Stand with Small Business

Our Chamber was founded on the belief that we are better and stronger together. We were one of the first community groups that organized and focused on regional economic development when we united two smaller chambers in 1988 and became the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce. Although we now serve five cities and focus on the region as a whole, we don’t ignore the immediate needs of the individual cities or our small businesses. In fact, our regional approach helps to ensure our small businesses

    Reaching for the Stars

“Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon July 1969, A.D. We came in peace for all mankind.” These words, engraved on the plaque left on the Moon by Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, have remained as inspirational as the infamous words spoken by Aldrin as he stepped out of the Lunar Module Eagle fifty years ago.

    Marching our Community Forward

March is celebrated as Women’s History Month, and March 8th is celebrated as International Women’s Day. This month is a time for us to honor and remember the enormous contributions women have made in business, art, politics, and science as well as to continue to advocate and lobby for greater equity. Which is why the Chamber is proud to present, a Lunch and Learn event exclusively focused on how our community can both honor and march our community forward towards greater progress for women.

    Be Prepared

“Be prepared,” the scout motto used around the world since 1907, is more than just good advice. It can save your life and your business. Unfortunately, most of us are woefully unprepared when it comes to preparing our families and our businesses for natural disasters.

    Universally Good

In 2018, the Chamber Board of Director’s approved the organization’s first-ever strategic plan. This plan is a crucial step in our organizational development as it provides us with a sense of direction, actionable and measurable goals, and a clear definition of our mission and vision.

    Education IS Economic Development

When I first started working in and with community organizations focused on economic development most of my colleagues and partners did not understand the link between education and economic development. There might have been a cursory awareness that most people realized that the more education a student received the higher their lifetime earning potential would be. But there was still a separation between who should be involved and dedicated to education and workforce initiatives and why. I’m happy to say

    Giving Thanks

November marks the beginning of the Holiday season. Here in the Puget Sound it also marks the beginning of the cold, dark and rainy months we know and love here. As the days grow shorter, and the nights longer, it’s a perfect time to gather with the ones we love the most and focus on all we are truly grateful for in our lives. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday to gather with loved ones and practice gratitude.

    Telling Your Story

One of the most difficult things businesses (and all of us really) must contend with in our current fast paced and sometimes frenetic world, is getting your story or your message across to a wide audience clearly and efficiently. This is important because the more people learn and understand who you are and why you do it, the broader your reach and customer base will be.

It is a Wonderful Thing to Have a Good Neighbor

It is a wonderful thing to have a good neighbor, but it is even a greater thing to be a good neighbor. National Good Neighbor Day was created in the early 1970s by Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana. In 1978, United States President Jimmy Carter issued Proclamation 4601: “As our Nation struggles to build friendship among the peoples of this world, we are mindful that the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities. The same bonds

    Back to School

August is always a busy time at our home. With two young school age children, August is packed with trying to fit in as much summer fun as possible, while also getting ready to head back to school. I remember when I was in school, I couldn’t wait to be done. I looked forward to those few weeks of freedom every summer. What I realize now, that I wish I knew then, was that if we really want to strive for excellence in our personal lives and in our careers, even though we might not still be in school, we can
